Flexibility must be considered by older people in accountancy jobs

Older employees, including those in accountancy jobs, should remain flexible with regards to how their jobs setup might change in older age.

That is according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which suggests that it is not just companies that should ensure they are flexible with regards to employment but workers too.

Mike Emmott, public policy advisor at the CIPD, said that as the likelihood of people working for longer increased, it was important all remained flexible with regards to their job setup and the hours they worked.

He said: “We certainly are seeing an increase in the numbers of older workers choosing to work for longer.

“There will need to be more flexibility because it is not just flexibility in working times, but flexibility about the sort of jobs people do.”

Mr Emmott went on to say that employers will need to give “more thought to part-time working [and] working from home” as more people refrain from retiring at 65.
