The availability of work, including accountancy jobs, could be
impacted by the phasing out of the default retirement age
(DRA).
Confusion over the future of the DRA has been rife, with Age UK
calling on the government to make clear its phasing-out plans.
Michelle Mitchell, Age UK charity director, said that a clear
framework for the abolishment of the DRA would benefit all
parties.
She said: “After announcing further consultation on phasing out
the default retirement age, the government should now set a clear
timetable to end speculation and confusion among employers and
employees alike.”
Ms Mitchell’s comments come after research from AVIVA revealed
that two-thirds of UK adults are preparing to work beyond the
current DRA. This figure stood at only 50 per cent five years
ago.
Should more people work beyond the current DRA, the total jobs
pool could be affected with a greater number of people
working.
