Shared services centres across both the private and public sectors are on the increase and for many are the ideal environment for career development.
Shared services business models have certainly evolved over the past decade. The most sophisticated and some would argue most successful are those stand alone service-led organisations that operate like any other business unit within an organisation.
…employers struggle to attract, manage and retain high numbers of transactional accounting staff
Set up to maximise effectiveness and efficiency and streamline business processes, when employers look to recruit accounting talent to run a shared service, it’s not surprising that they look for a solid level of business acumen and some very specific accountancy skills.
We find that the most in demand are qualified accountants with experience of Six Sigma, Lean, programme & project management and process reengineering and come from a shared services background.
Add to this the need for broader leadership and strong communication skills, as employers struggle to attract, integrate, manage and retain high numbers of transactional accounting staff, shared services can be an ideal arena for finance professionals to expand their remit.
We will be looking at Shared Services environments in more detail in the next edition of Connections, our business magazine, to be published in September. To subscribe to Connections or to receive our Spring/Summer edition please email connections@badenochandclark.com.
