The criminal vetting process for applicants to finance jobs and other professions should be made simpler, it has been suggested.
That is according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), which suggests that the new coalition government has a responsibility to simplify the procedure and make it more cost-effective, reports Personnel Today.
It adds that prospective employees should only be vetted in circumstances where a background check is absolutely necessary.
Anne Fairweather, the REC’s head of public policy, said that it was time to overhaul the system once and for all.
She told the news provider: “The government has been trying to sort this out since 2006. We want to make sure we get it right this time.
“The vetting process needs to be easy to use and make sense. Safe recruitment is much broader than simply criminal checks.”
The REC also suggests that instances where recruitment agencies have to process repeat background checks are a waste of time and money.
