Who’s in demand – February 2010

Roles for accounting and finance professionals are on the up. It’s those that have the ability to manage costs more effectively without limiting growth potential who are in particular demand; such as business partners and commercial accountants.

According to our recent research The commercial challenge: Building accountants’ skills project accountant roles are likely to be back on the agenda once investment for projects is released and compliance related roles such as IFRS continue to be available as employers keep pace with the latest regulations.

Despite stories of redundancies and recruitment freezes across the public sector, there are still roles. The NHS is recruiting for accountants with provider arm and commissioning experience and there are still a healthy number of management accountant roles available. In local government if you have experience of working in Adult Social Care then your skills are certainly in demand.

It’s good news for accounting and finance professionals in banking and financial services as we see a number of roles released. Business analysts remain hot commodities as the demand for roles continues to outstrip candidate numbers, while an ever increasing gap appearing between change and operational departments, new hybrid roles for accounting controllers are being created to cover business as usual tasks.

Financial accountants and financial controllers with instrument experience, specifically Basel 2, IFRS and IAS, are in demand at many investment banks.
