People in accountancy jobs could be able to extend their careers when the default retirement age (DRA) is abolished.
As with people in other sectors, those holding down accountancy jobs may find they are in a position to extend their working years if they are fit and healthy.
Age UK has called on the government to reveal when exactly the DRA will be abolished, with the powers-that-be having made a promise to end automatic retirement but failed to set out a timeline for it.
The charity wants the government to set out a plan in the Budget declaring that the DRA will be removed from British law by April.
Michelle Mitchell, charity director of Age UK, said: "The default retirement age is a hugely unpopular law which is well past its sell-by date.
"Forcing people in later life out of the labour market when they want to work, save for their pensions and pay taxes is nonsense."
According to a survey by Age UK, more than two-thirds of the public would like to see the DRA scrapped.
