Unlocking Britain's Potential –  A major event for senior decision makers ready to unlock the potential of their workforce.  21st February 2011

Who’s in demand – November 2009

There’s positive news for those with experience in a wide range of sectors such as retail, FMCG, food manufacturing, technology, pharmaceutical and banking & financial services as employers begin to lift recruitment freezes. With countries such as the US and Germany now officially out of a recession, some of their companies’ UK subsidiaries are beginning to reap the rewards as sign off for recruitment gets easier.

FDs and CFOs expect recruitment activity to pick up significantly in 2010

In the public sector we’re seeing a need for specialist finance professionals, in pension funds, IT systems or social care, while there is a growth for business partners as organisations prepare to tighten budgets for 2010/2011. And for many sectors, we’re seeing an increase in the number of permanent roles become available.

Employers continue to need commercially-minded accountants to perform business partner roles to help their business make informed decisions. There is a demand for part qualified financial planners and analysts as organisations look to upskill them for future senior business critical roles; aiding succession planning and cost control, while strong all rounded finance managers from private practice are in demand.

The strong focus on cost control has led to the creation of new roles. For example in the legal sector, we’ve seen a number of law firms recruit positions related to revenue control to help the fee earners better manage their cash flow.

Finally, as many private sector businesses gear up to tackle year-end issues, numerous are seeking interim help from talented accountants with year end experience to boost their existing teams.

And the future looks brighter for the finance professionals as chief financial officers and financial directors are telling us that they expect recruitment activity to pick up significantly in 2010 as they finalise their resource plans.
