Recruitment agencies may wish to suggest more candidates over the age of 50 for jobs in banking and finance, following comments made by Saga Magazine.
The specialist publication for mature readers said that people in this age demographic are much less likely than their younger counterparts to clock-watch, get to work late or come in with a hangover.
Emma Soames, editor-at-large for the publication, said that ageism is still a "huge problem" for over 50s.
"I'm very pleased that the default retirement age has been removed but I don't know whether this is going to make it any easier for older people to get jobs," she said.
"A lot of employers don't want older employees but the over 50s make brilliant employees; they are a very good stabilising influence in a team of young people."
She was commenting in response to a release from charity Age UK, which showed that the number of older workers still in long-term employment is at a ten-year high.
