Financial services jobs could benefit from new skills report

People looking for financial services jobs may be encouraged by a new report on skills suggesting that Britain needs to increase its number of available apprenticeships.

With in-house finance job training a necessity for most positions in the industry, a rise in accessibility could help more potential employees gain relevant experience.

The paper, published by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), strongly recommended “swift and decisive action” in order to safeguard the country’s economy and productivity, keeping it in the global top eight for jobs.

Chris Humphries, chief executive of the UKCES, explained: “The commission hopes and believes that the UK can continue to be a world class nation … but we’re living on past glories.”

Some of the other suggestions made by the organisation included improving advice and guidance for learners and prioritising public funding to lower-level talents.

It also recommended the devolution of decision-making and funding to the front line.
