Women could find their career development plan easier to both formulate and follow as a result of improved gender equality in the workplace.
A new code of conduct has been introduced by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) which could see increasing numbers of women appointed to positions at boardroom level.
The FRC’s guidelines reveal that when considering people for such positions businesses must show “due regard for the benefits of diversity on the board, including gender”.
Toni Eastwood, training director at everywoman, said that the move is an important step in establishing gender equality in the workplace, regardless of seniority.
She said: “every woman welcomes this new code which will help to further the issue around gender imbalance in Europe as having diversity at both senior and board level has proven to benefit the bottom line for businesses.”
Last year, Norway introduced a law stipulating that company boards must be made up of at least 40 per cent women.
