Managers need to invest in effective employee engagement if they are to get the best out of those who work from home, it has been claimed.
With growing numbers of professionals in financial services jobs opting to take advantage of new technology and work from home to some degree, experts have recommended that employer support is key to helping them be as productive as possible while out of the office.
According to Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, while many people enjoy the lifestyle benefits of home-working, some may find it stressful, while others may be unable to motivate themselves to get their work done.
“If you have an understanding and supportive employer, and an understanding and supportive social environment as a home worker, then it does free up stress,” he explained.
“There’s no doubt about it, for those who are self-motivated and can plan and organise, or their employer has helped them, people can be more productive. The key to it is employer support.”
These comments come soon after a study released by a team at Brigham Young University (BYU) revealed that one in four home workers believe their jobs interfere with their personal and family life.
