Business confidence ‘returning to the UK and abroad’

Recruitment agencies will be hoping for an upturn in the jobs market as business confidence continues to grow.

The managing director of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has highlighted what the organisation sees as "a return to confidence across the business community" as firms realise new opportunities for growth around the world.

Rosa Wilkinson suggested that the businesses that succeed and grow in the current economic climate will be those constantly searching for new customers in markets both at home and overseas.

"It might be UK, but it is also those customers in other countries around the world, particularly those in areas like Brazil and the Middle and Far East where you see a growing middle class with money," she explained.

"It's a growing awareness that there are opportunities created by a genuinely global supply chain in the world these days."

Her comments suggest that language skills could increasingly come to separate the best job candidates from the rest of the market.

However, the latest GCSE figures indicate that fewer students are taking foreign languages at school, now that they have been made optional.
