Recruitment agencies to see upsurge in activity

InterviewRecruitment agencies are beginning to see an increase in the number of organisations advertising jobs as recruitment freezes start to thaw out.

According to the Confederation of British Industry, the number of companies implementing recruitment freezes currently stands at just five per cent, down from 37 per cent six months ago.

The figures, compiled by Harvey Nash, also indicated that nearly one third of organisations plan to increase their staff numbers over the year ahead.

It is hoped that increased recruitment among private-sector companies could ease the high unemployment level; however the vast majority firms remain cautious.

CBI deputy director general John Cridland said: "Employers have come out the other side of the recession, having managed to keep many many more people in jobs than had been expected.

"Although there are some signs that job prospects are improving, a good number of businesses are still operating a pay freeze."

Meanwhile, the Federation of Small Business has welcomed moves announced in the Queen’s Speech to protect jobs.
