With the abundance of new regulations and compliance requirements in the banking sector, a host of new roles have been created. This is resulting in a marked increase in demand for resourcing and recruitment professionals, and opportunities can be found across a wide range of levels from co-ordinators to senior strategic roles.

As banks begin to grow in confidence they are looking to expand their teams and some analysts are even talking about the demand for talent returning to the high of 2006. In order to save costs, banks are looking to take as much recruitment as possible in-house. Consequently there are many more roles on the market for recruitment specialists, specifically on the interim side. Having been frozen in recent years, graduate level recruitment is also on the increase.

This increase in demand is resulting in jobseekers demanding higher salaries as they realise their worth. In turn, this is leading to a longer time to hire as organisations are having to negotiate on their original offers.

At the other end of the scale, we are also seeing a number of leading City banks calling on the expertise of senior interim ER specialists. This is to handle the complex issues arising out of recent acquisitions and mergers as well as ongoing reductions in headcount, which are still affecting some banks.
