Bosses of people in HR jobs should lead by example

Company bosses should set an example to their staff, including those in HR jobs.

That is the opinion of Shaf Rasul, one of the dragons from Dragon’s Den Online, who believes that a good boss will be one who leads by example.

He believed that a manager who works hard and also shows an interest in his staff will get more from them in return. While such an approach will serve to benefit the employees, it will also bolster company productivity.

Mr Rasul said: “[Taking an active interest in staff] has helped office morale substantially. The staff are getting more involved in the business, they’re coming up with suggestions to make the business better.”

He made his comments after research for the 2010 Orange Leader of the Year Award found that UK bosses are trading their dictatorship style management skills in favour of a more empathetic approach.

The research also reveals that 43 per cent of UK bosses have rejected a bonus to seem more financially prudent.
