Hospitality sector could require HR jobs as conferences are ‘big business’

The hospitality sector could require more people in human resources jobs in the future after one expert said that meeting and conferences are "an important market for many hotels".

Miles Quest, spokesman for the British Hospitality Association, said that hotels can offer many benefits as a conference location because meeting facilities and accommodation are under one roof.

He added that hotels are better off having conference facilities included as they are likely to fill rooms and make food and beverage sales.

While he noted that the sector has had a difficult period, he said any improvement in demand will benefit the hotel sector "hugely".

He added: "It has been hit in the recession because of the decline in corporate business, which automatically affected business meetings and conferences – so any improvement in demand will benefit the hotel sector hugely."

People 1st's State of the Nation 2011 report estimated recently that 638,000 jobs in the hospitality sector will be required by 2017.
