Recruitment fairs are an excellent opportunity to meet recruitment consultants and prospective employers. They are also most convenient, as they bring together an impressive number of employers together at the same time: it is possible for you to meet with a whole host of people within a matter of hours.
However, it is not enough simply to turn up at a recruitment fair and hope for the best. There are a number of things you need to do in order to make the most of the experience.
Firstly, find out what kind of recruitment fair it is. Some have quite a wide remit, such as graduate jobs, whilst many are more specific. If you are looking for finance jobs, make sure that you are attending an appropriate event.
Next, do your research. Who will be exhibiting? Make a list of who you would like to see. This will save you from wandering around aimlessly once you get there. If you are going to see specific companies, make sure you have read up on them. You may well be asked questions about why you want to work there.
Go to the recruitment fair as if you were going to an interview. Dress formally and take with some hard copies of your CV as well as a copy on a USB stick. Be ready to answer questions on your goals, ambitions and achievements and also have some questions ready to ask recruiters.
