Companies are making “significant efforts” to retain women employees, including those in IT jobs.
That is according to Jerri Barrett, vice president of marketing for Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, who states that businesses are making progress with regards to valuing women employees and retaining their services.
She said: “Companies are paying more and more attention to their corporate cultures and are making significant efforts on retaining their female employees, especially at the mid-level.”
However, Ms Barrett went on to say that women are still facing barriers when it comes to climbing the corporate ladder and securing senior positions.
She suggests that gender discrimination is still present in the workplace, though companies are making concerted efforts to stamp it out.
A recent survey from the 360° IT event, which is due to be held in September 2010, found that only one-fifth of the IT sector is female.
