People looking for work, including those in IT jobs, should ensure that their CV does not have any gaps in it.
That is according to CV advisory group The Write Stuff, which suggests that CVs are weakened by gaps and that jobseekers should ensure these are filled in, even if it is not with a job.
While applying for work, those who are unemployed could find ways of adding to their skills set through alternative activities.
Peter Panayotou, senior consultant for The Write Stuff, said: “You can fill a gap while also building skills with something such as a first aid course.
“It is good for employers to see you were doing something rather than just sitting around waiting for opportunities to come to you. Any skills you can add can’t do any harm.”
He made his comments after the Guardian revealed that employers now read approximately 70 CVs for every job vacancy.
