People in IT jobs should report bullying to senior staff

People who suffer bullying in the workplace, including those in IT jobs, should ensure they report the situation to their boss.

That is the opinion of Emma Mamo, policy and campaigns manger at Mind, the mental health charity, who believes that workers should not “suffer in silence” and should flag the issue up.

She suggests that a person’s happiness in the office has an effect on both their professional and personal life.

Ms Mamo said: “Feeling victimised and fearful, day in day out while you are trying to do your job is an obvious path to unhappiness, and no workplace should take bullying lightly.

“Not only does it undermine performance at work, but it can have repercussions for mental health.”

She goes on to say that being bullied by fellow members of staff can be “tremendously damaging to our self-esteem” and “wellbeing”.

Mind has voiced its concerns that mental health could become sidelined during the government shake-up of the NHS.
