Cloud computing could impact IT jobs market

The increasing popularity of cloud computing could impact upon the IT jobs market, according to industry leaders.

A recent survey conducted by InformationWeek Analytics revealed that only 12 per cent of IT executives believe that the rise of cloud computing will have no effect on the IT jobs market.

The remaining executives believe that hiring and employment practises could be directly impacted by the business world’s gradual adoption of the cloud.

Lorna Garey, content director for InformationWeek Analytics, said that the shifting shape of the market could make for some interesting developments in the near future, depending on reaction within the sector.

She said: "One interesting perspective from poll respondents we spoke with is that for the first time, enterprise IT groups no longer hold monopoly status when it comes to providing IT services to their companies.

"Cloud providers represent some real competition. The question is, will CIOs and their teams rise to the challenge?"

The research also revealed that 39 per cent of IT staff believe their companies have no plans to use or evaluate public cloud services.
