Rudeness in the workplace, including towards those with legal jobs, causes employees to make
mistakes.
That is according to Rhona Flin, a professor at Aberdeen
University, who suggests that rudeness in the office can have a
negative impact on all those present, not just the individuals at
which the remarks are targeted, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Writing in the British Medical Journal, professor Flin suggests
that arguments, heated discussion and rudeness at work results in
people losing concentration and productivity.
Furthermore, it is estimated that ten per cent of employees are
witness to rudeness in the workplace.
While the trait is true of any working environment, professor
Flin highlights the medical profession as an area of particular
concern – a concern that has already been recognised.
She told the news provider: “The Joint Commission (which
accredits healthcare organisations in the United States) … issued
an alert in 2008 warning that rude language and hostile behaviour
among healthcare professionals pose a serious threat to patient
safety.”
