People in legal jobs should be afforded greater employee engagement

UK employers, including those that provide legal jobs, should ensure that they evaluate their engagement with staff.

That is according to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which suggests that many organisations based in Britain are in need of reviewing the extent to which they liaise with their staff.

Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at the CMI, said that the issue was one of importance as engagement levels across the country were slipping.

He said: "In terms of human capital management, we need to look closer at how we are engaging with our staff. Employee engagement levels from a year ago are at their lowest ever level."

Mr Petrook went on to say that it was important for companies to analyse whether staff were getting as much out of work as the business was getting out of them.

He made his comments after PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that UK firms are being outperformed by US businesses with regards to the return on investment in people.
