The productivity of workers, including those in communications jobs, could be improved if they cycled to work.
That is according to the sustainable transport charity Sustrans, which suggests that biking into work is not only good for the environment but good for the individual and company too.
Phillip Insall, the charity’s health director, said that the advantages of encouraging employees to cycle to their place of work were numerous.
He said: “The benefits of active commuting are many – healthier, more productive staff, cleaner air and lower carbon emissions, and reduced congestion being only the most obvious.”
Mr Insall added that knock-on benefits would be appreciated in a number of areas, including the NHS, which could save money as a result of an improvement in the population’s general health.
He made his comments after the government launched its Cycle to Work Alliance, an initiative created to raise the awareness of the health benefits of pedalling to work.
