Many UK workers, including people in supply chain jobs, are struggling to appreciate their livelihood as a result of being overworked.
That is according to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which reveals that people in employment are often failing to enjoy work due to the added pressures being placed on them in the wake of the recession.
It is suggested that in many cases one of the primary causes is that staff dismissed during the peak of the economic downturn have not been replaced and the remaining workers have been expected to take on extra responsibilities.
Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at the CMI, said that the added pressure was not only adding stress to work, but also impacting on people’s happiness.
He said: “With all the redundancies that have happened, people have not been replaced – and those who have been left behind have low morale.
“This is because they have more to do, and more pressure to deliver with fewer resources.”
