Bakery firm Greggs set to create new roles including supply chain jobs

Supply chain jobs could be required in the coming years after bakery firm Greggs announced that it would be building a new factory in Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Council approved plans for the building which, when complete, will be situated on a five-and-a-half acre plot of land in Amesbury.

It is thought that around 300 jobs will be created when the construction is complete, helping to supply its southern stores with fresh produce.

Dave Dash, of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, told the BBC that the news is excellent for the industry.

"In this [economic] environment it is good to see the company progressing and growing in the south west," he told the news provider.

The firm also hopes it can now press ahead with plans to open a further 250 outlets as they will now have the capability to make extra deliveries.

Founded in the 1930s, the chain now has over 1,400 stores across the UK.
