New procurement jobs could be created at a number of firms after the government's buying agency signed a two-year managed services framework with 12 suppliers.
Computer Weekly reports that the framework includes managed IT services for PCs, mobile devices, servers and peripherals as well as network monitoring and maintenance.
Other services addressed by the procurement framework agreement include disaster recovery, managed hosting, datacentre provision, application hosting, network services and remote access.
David Meaden, chief executive of Northgate Public Services, which won a place on the procurement contract, expressed his delight at working with Buying Solutions to provide the public sector with managed IT services.
"In this age of austerity, it offers public services the opportunity to deliver better services for less," he said.
The 12 firms awarded a place on the contract were chosen based on a number of criteria, including customer services, sustainability, service delivery, contractual considerations and pricing.
