Asda could create supply chain jobs after announcing new Edinburgh superstore

Supply chain jobs could be created by Asda in Scotland this year after the company announced it will be building a new superstore in the country.

Around 400 full-time and part-time positions will be recruited for in Edinburgh as the firm continues to expand across the UK.

The 45,000-square-foot facility will be unveiled in around nine months' time and will be situated opposite to the Ikea in Straiton, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.

Sarah Mills, Asda's communications manager for Scotland, told the news provider that the company is "delighted" to be coming to the Straiton area.

"This is a great location offering local residents and shoppers coming to the area greater choice and value," she said.

"This is a significant investment in an established shopping location."

Asda has around 375 stores across the country, employing nearly 150,000 people.

Last week it was announced that the firm had fallen to third in the supermarket rankings after Sainsbury had a strong Christmas trading period.
