
Tesco has announced that it will offer roles such as supply chain jobs to members of the armed forces who will lose their positions because of last week's spending review.
The supermarket will even hire people in management positions in a scheme created with help from the Ministry of Defence and the Career Transitional Partnership.
Last Wednesday (October 20th), Chancellor George Osborne revealed that 42,000 military jobs will be lost as part of his plans to cut Britain's budget deficit.
Alastair Williamson, a former Royal Artillery captain who now works for the supermarket chain in London, told the News of the World that a spell in the armed forces is a good platform for a career in retail.
"When army service ends you come away with strong qualities. The desire to deliver a great experience is like regimental pride to be the best," he told the news provider.
Last week Tesco Bank unveiled plans last week to create 200 jobs in its Glasgow customer service centre, as plans to move into the mortgage and insurance market.
