Project management jobs in green sector could follow as spending is set to rise

People in project management jobs in the green sector could see demand for their services grow this year after one market forecast said that large UK companies are going to increase their spending on energy, environmental and sustainability issues.

Independent analyst firm Verdantiz said that sustainable business spending will grow by 12 per cent this year – around 20 times quicker than predicted GDP growth.

Furthermore, it found that this will grow even further in the next three years, from £4.3 billion in 2012 to £6.8 billion in 2015, creating the possibility of more job opportunities.

Susan Clarke, Verdantix analyst and author of the report, said that companies are looking to become more efficient through what they do.

"The UK's sustainable business market is continuing to grow at a healthy rate because firms have aligned sustainability strategies with operational efficiency," she said.

"Energy cost savings and more efficient use of natural resources now underpin sustainability investments – not philanthropic commitments to fight climate change."

Meanwhile, the government has given the go-ahead for the country's second high-speed railway line, creating thousands of jobs over the next decade.
