Increase in property searches could lead to future housing jobs

Housing jobs may be among those created this year after one company said that there are positive signs for the market.

Mouseprice, an online source of UK property market information, said that there has been an increase in the number of people searching for details on homes.

In the first ten days of this year, there was a 27 per cent increase in property search activity, compared to the same time last year.

Selwyn Lim, director of Mouseprice, explained that while growth in the internet is part of the reason, it is a good sign for the housing market.

"Part of the [Rightmove] increase is just because more people are searching online and less people use newspapers, so there is going to be an increase even if the market is declining, simply because of that. Nevertheless, I am sure some of it is a growth in people searching [for property in general]," he explained.

Meanwhile, Westminster City Council announced a new housing initiative earlier this week.
