Communication skills could boost candidates’ programme management chances

Candidates applying for project and programme management jobs may benefit from drawing special attention to their communication skills during the interview.

That is according to comments made by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which said that good communication is crucial to ensuring high performance and productivity levels among teams.

Petra Wilton, director of policy and research at the organisation, said that staff must be made to understand the role that they play within businesses to feel valued.

She said: "They are driven by really understanding the company vision and having a sense of purpose in terms of what can be done."

"Communication is an absolute critical part of what we model and look at in terms of employer engagement."

Ms Wilson was speaking after a report by Chrysalis Courses indicated that a third of staff in the UK feel unappreciated in their current roles.

Meanwhile, a report by Aviva highlighted the lack of communication in the workplace, with just four per cent of staff claiming to be open with managers about their health.
