Project management jobs ‘may work well in a mixed-age team’

Those looking for project management jobs may be encouraged by recent comments about age in the workplace.

People on the lookout for project management jobs or a change management job are likely to be encouraged by recent remarks about age in the workplace.

Due to the economic downturn, all demographics are searching for work – and this can benefit a company, said Rachel Krys.

Ms Krys is campaign director for the independent network Employers Forum on Age and said some recruitment agencies make the mistake of trying to place people of a similar age into an existing pool of staff.

For instance, if they see that one particular department in a firm is filled with workers in their 30s, some might immediately think the next person to join should also be in their 30s.

“What they’re really missing is that a mixed-age team – having people of all different ages – makes a much stronger and much more adaptable team,” she explained.

A group of “identikit” employees is not necessarily a good thing, she added.
