Delivering more for less is the watchword for the public sector and as a result has created roles for a number of professionals; performance management and change management experts are in demand as organisations across the public sector look at ways to achieve value for money; the NHS and central government are recruiting business partners to work closely with non-finance departments to help cut costs in preparation for future budget squeezes and senior level procurement candidates with experience of the private sector are particularly sought after as the NHS has recognised a need to improve processes and increase commerciality.
The housing sector continues to be a solid recruiter for a number of professions; from accounting ‘personalisation’ roles in social housing as service users have a greater say in how funding is spent to generic housing providers bringing in new middle managers to ensure their core operations are run at a surplus.
We’re seeing a marked demand for IT business analysts to review and assess systems needs for 2010, with recruitment activity in process design and for systems developers as organisations spend their budgets before year end.
In recent weeks we have seen a marked increase in legal work relating to service charge arrears and Leasehold Valuation Tribunals work. We understand that this is part of councils’ drive to secure any funds owing to them to increase cash flow ahead of impending budget cuts in 2010.
We’ve seen a growth in demand for Communications professionals across the public sector, while community engagement specialists are needed as local authority public service providers continue to struggle to engage local people in the development of their neighbourhood and services.
