The importance of networking has increased dramatically.
According to new research from career management consultancy Right Management, face-to-face and social networking are hugely popular amongst HR professionals. In total, 74% of those recruiters and HR managers surveyed said that they were active users of both in order to source new talent.
The respondents said that LinkedIn was the most useful social and professional networking site for sourcing candidates, with Facebook being the second most useful.
Video CVs also look set to become more popular. Although just 17% of respondents said that they currently use video CVs, nearly have of those questioned said that they would consider using them in the future.
In a similar vein, 40% of respondents said that they were likely to use webcam and video technology in their selection processes in the future.
The results pertain to recruiters working with private sector and public sector jobs.
Nicola Deas, practice leader of career management at Right Management, said: “It is critical, particularly in this difficult job market, that job seekers have support to develop the right skills and have access to the right opportunities to find employment.
“It’s never been more important to learn how to effectively network with peers – online and offline – as well as being able to create a great online profile with compelling messages that will get noticed by employers and recruiters.
“It’s not enough to have just to have a good CV today.”
