Who’s in demand – August 2010

In housing technical teams we’ve seen an increase in demand for asset management skills, much of which has been driven by Decent Homes funding

Specialist technical skills are in demand such as fire and risk assessment, legionnaires and general health & safety, brought about by high profile residential fires and organisations getting ready for audit inspections.

As it’s harder for first time buyers to get onto the property market and redundancies have been a common occurrence, communities need more advisors on housing options.

Supported housing has seen an increase for decommissioning skills as organisations look at the strategic viability of projects of services.
Outsourcing of services by the NHS or private sector has created commercial opportunities for housing providers as they are often seen as providing value for money. Those who have experience of tendering for this type of work are in high demand.

Although social care departments work to cut costs frontline workers remain key. Personalisation is still a big programme in adults social services and social workers and managers with a good understanding of the agenda are highly valued. Temporary recruitment continues to thrive in areas such as Child Protection, Referral & Assessment and Family Support.

With the changes announced in the budget, public sector recruitment has tempered significantly as central government departments, NHS organisations and local authorities look to analyse where savings can be delivered. Opportunity still remains for senior interims working on a consultancy basis to help with the delivery of efficiencies.

Fundraisers are increasingly in demand, especially as the government recedes from service provision and statutory funding, leaving charities ever more reliant on generating voluntary income.
