Recruitment agencies may see an increase this year in demand among government organisations for consultants.
That is according to a new study of the global consulting industry by market analyst Plunkett Research, which indicated that public sector jobs could be on the rise.
It identified greater opportunities in 2010 for management consultants as organisations look to increase their outlays following a period of restricted spending last year.
The research noted the transportation, healthcare, energy and IT security sectors as those in which public-sector consulting recruitment will be strongest.
Interestingly, large organisations in the private sector also revealed plans to hire internal consultants in order to cut their costs.
Jack Plunkett, chief executive of Plunkett Research, said: "After a miserable 2009 that saw revenues and profits plummet for the consulting industry, 2010 will see a significant rebound as corporate clients are ready to spend again within reason."
Those applying for public-sector jobs will need to show themselves to be invaluable after the new chancellor George Osborne revealed plans for cost-cutting across government.
